Good #1: Grandparents

First post in the "good" category. It's about grandparents and how Filipinos, unlike Americans, don't bring them to retirement homes.

I always loved how most Filipino families are really close. Our grandparents usually live with us or in their own home, which we also visit. Unlike in the U.S., we don't take our grandparents to a retirement home even when we know we can't keep an eye on them 24/7. Our grandparents were with us our entire life so why put them away, right?

That's what I don't get with Americans. Why can't they take care of their old folk? I'm not saying every American is like this, in fact, there are some who also stays with the family and not with other oldies from other families. Sure, old people are sometimes really hard to handle and can be really annoying at times, but I think all those are just normal. We will all go through that. Our grandparents took care of us so why can't we do the same for them?

Filipinos love their old folks. The occasional story-telling about how these days are very different from how things were back in the day, the usual spoiling, and most of all, the love we get from them.

A grandparent's love is very different from a parents' love. Grandparents would say yes when parents say no, and they'll also give you some money when your parents won't. Haha!

Sure, they are really hard to take care of, but so were you when you were young. They don't have much time in their hands so I think we should all show them we care before it's all over. Regrets can be a pain in the ass.

Show 'em you love 'em before it's too late.
